Torchwood S2E09

Just watched it, and I’m thinking, the writers probably had a little too much to drink when writing the episode.  It was fun, don’t get me wrong, but it was like a roller-coaster event.  Here’s what I mean.

Gwen finally gets to walk down the aisle, but of course, being Torchwood, nothing ever goes according to plans.  The night before the wedding, Gwen and her team are chasing down a shapeshifter, but Gwen gets bitten in the process.  The team takes down the alien, and everyone goes on their merry ways.  Until the next morning, when Gwen wakes up 9 months preggers.

So here’s where it starts getting a bit loony.  Gwen decided to go on with the wedding, while the team try to figure out why and how she got prenant.  At the mansion where the wedding is to take place, we get to see in the in-laws.  The fathers appear to be good guys, but the mothers are like slobbering pit bulls, taking verbal punches at each other all the time.  The entire wedding party are mystified, rumors floating around at how Gwen could be pregnant and having kept it all a secret.

Now it turns out, the alien shapeshifter has a partner, and that partner is at the wedding as well.  Seems the aliens impregnate a host, and the female alien turns up to do some slicing and dicing of said host, thereby delivering the hatched egg.  Of course, our intrepid team races off to save Gwen.  How it’s done, you just need to watch the episode.  But let’s just say, it involves the alien scalpel and a good dose of “Army of Darkness” humor.  Very funny!!

What was cool was watching Toshiko kicking ass.  Seems Toshiko is not as deficient in the love department as expected.  Looks like Tosh does get picked up on quite often, and she has the hutzpah (sp?) to deal with unwanted amorous “Bananas”.  (again watch and you will get it).  Way to go Tosh!!

All in all, quite a lot of fun.  With a lot of “what the f*c%!!”.  I think it’s because the last few episodes have been so dark and depressing dealing with Owen and his “state” that the writers wanted to bring some comedic relief back into the show.  Quite fun actually, and well needed.

Until next week!
